The 2019 Toyota RAV 4 is a solid crossover SUV that is very competitive. It is completely redesigned to achieve a mini-SUV look. Aside from the stylish makeover, the 2019 RAV4 is also added with a new engine and a set of new tech features.
The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is a likable car but it will all depend on how you would configure everything on the order sheet. It simply means that if you are going to make a nice Equinox, then you need to be prepared in paying a higher price for the extra specs.
Design & Style
The RAV4 has a sporty off-road design that makes it stand out compared to the Equinox. It is fitted with two layers of trapezoidal grilles to further enhance a tough-looking exterior. There is also a chunky set of unpainted fender flares, bulky rear roof pillars, and high-mounted taillights. The cabin also has the same tough look but trim levels get to have unique upholstery patterns with matching stitches.
The Equinox has pleasant curves and also wears a two-tiered grille upfront. The headlights depend on how much you are willing to spend with the most expensive being the LEDs on the Premier trim. Although the front seems nice, the rear end has an upright look that makes it more like a minivan than a proper crossover.
Technology & Safety
One of the updates for the RAV4 is the infotainment system. It has new controls for audio and navigation. Aside from the fixed buttons, there is also a touchscreen display that has a straightforward interface. Apple CarPlay is already available and the Toyota Entune for connectivity.
Past Chevys are plagued with inefficient infotainment. The Equinox, however, has a good set of in-car tech. it comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard but is reliant on an internet connection.
Performance
The RAV4 gets a new2.5 -liter engine for up to 203 horsepower. It has solid handling and braking. The engine is strong enough to feel willing when driving around town. The braking is exceptional at making smooth and easy stops through traffic.
The standard engine for the Equinox is a 1.5-liter with 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. The premier trim can have the 2.0-liter engine for up to 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This means that the only way to get a smooth and manageable drive is to upgrade from the base engine for more power.
The Bottom Line
Between the two vehicles, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 is a better choice simply because there is more value to what you are paying for. All the standard features of the RAV4 are enough to impress both in looks and performance unlike in the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox where everything has to be paid extra for the upgraded features.
