The 2019 Toyota Avalon has received numerous accolades for its attractive exterior, hybrid options, relaxing seats, and standard features. But how does it compare to the 2019 Buick Regal, An American car with European styling that has lots of power, space and wagon options?
Design & Style
The latest Buick Regal is sold in the form of a wagon or hatchback. The rear portion of the vehicle is slightly taller with less contour, which provides greater headroom inside and allows for much more cargo space than is possible with standard sedans. Chrome strips can be found along the grille and window outline which provide a touch of elegance. The Toyota Avalon is a significant improvement over its predecessors. Its body side has stamped lines near the wheels which are sharp and which extend within its beltline. The grille in front is prominent and wide, with LED headlights. The cabin is covered in colors that contrast one another and a mix of materials that use authentic wood trim.
Technology & Safety
The Toyota Avalon has earned stellar marks from both independent as well as federal testers. The IIHS awarded it the coveted Top Safety Pick, while the NHTSA gave it an overall five-star rating. Drivers and passengers will be protected by emergency automatic brakes, frontal impact notifications, and a camera for the rearview and emergency response which will automatically alert first responders if the vehicle is involved in an accident or stolen. Interior perks include nine-inch touchscreens, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth support, moon roof and upholstery made with synthetic leather. Safety systems in the Buick Regal include front airbags that are dual-stage, airbags for the side and knees, a camera for the rearview and hood that pops up to reduce head injuries. Passenger perks include keyless ignition, seven-inch touchscreens, Apple CarPlay and 4G LTE from OnStar.
Performance
The Buick Regal is equipped with a turbo 4, 2-liter engine that provides outstanding acceleration, which can generate 250 horsepower with 250 pounds of torque. Drivers also have the option to upgrade to a V6 if they desire more power. The Toyota Avalon comes with a V6 engine by default, which is 3.5 liter and capable of producing 300 horsepower which is shuffled via an automatic eight-speed transmission.
The Bottom Line
Both of these cars are well made and provide similar safety features and creature comforts. However, a lot of people these days, especially younger drivers, aren't digging the hatchback look, and this combined with the fact that the Avalon has greater performance and premium materials makes Toyota the winner.
