The 2019 Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV that has earned a reputation for its reliability. Its hauling capacity is impressive, thanks to its robust V-8 engine. There is also an optional four-wheel drive system that makes it competent as well for off-roading.
Another massive SUV that is also esteemed for its capabilities is the 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. It is a rugged workhorse that's due for a new generation coming out soon.
Design & Style
The Sequoia retained the soft curves on its bulky shape when it debuted back in 2007. The fascia, however, has been updated to make it look more modern. There are now sharp angles with segmented chrome pieces. The sides and tailgate still look heavy but the truck-based styling is also dominated with natural proportions. The hard plastic trim on its cabin suggests its truck origins but the fake wood trim gave it a dressed-up truck effect.
The Tahoe also has an old-fashion design. The exterior, however, is a squared-off two-box style that looks plain. The headlights still has the same odd shape and frame the large grille. There is no visual flair on its exterior and the interior is car-like with more cloth than leather materials.
Technology & Safety
The infotainment on the Sequoia is basic but works well. It has Bluetooth and USB for connectivity. It is easy to pair a Smartphone with the audio system and users can browse through the audio library using Bluetooth connection. What makes the Sequoia impressive on the tech side is the set of comprehensive active safety tech that all come as standard. Some of the useful driver aids include automatic emergency braking, cross-traffic monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.
The Tahoe has advanced Smartphone integration and other infotainment features but the available driver aids are mediocre. Navigation is intuitive but the sound quality of the prompts is poor.
Performance
The Sequoia has no problem as a hauler mainly because of its V8 5.7-liter engine. It can deliver as much as 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. It is well suited to tow boats and trailers. It is easy to handle when not pulling any load. It is agile for its size and the TRD version is stable at climbing and descending hills.
The Tahoe comes with a standard 5.3-liter engine for 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. It is sluggish and feels heavy to drive. The engine feels lethargic and requires a lot of force on the gas pedal if there is a need for a solid thrust.
The Bottom Line
Between two massive vehicles, only the 2019 Toyota Sequoia is able to impress with all its appealing features. The 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe looks boring and it does not perform as solid as how it looks.
